three shows about art that rewired my brain!

Mozart in the Jungle (begins as very orchestral focused and then branches out into all kinds of appreciation, including performances by the stunning bernadette peters)

Slings and Arrows (Shakespeare with a side of drama generally, the life of an actor in all its complete lack of grandeur, baby luke kirby in s1 doing hamlet -- entirely on youtube in HD)

We Are Lady Parts (mainly about punk music written by an all-women muslim punk band... and yes there's a song with malala Yousafzai actually in it!)

What I like about all three of them is that, although there are varying elements of the fairytale in them, the constant back-and-forth between making art and having to survive is always there -- the question of how much power and honesty you're willing to give up in order to make art that is real

and the "happy ending" is achieved differently -- through community building and mutual aid, rather than what is bestowed from the top down
